Students at Chittagong University are calling on the university administration to lower the admission form fees from Tk 1,000 per unit. The application process for the CU admission tests for the 2025-26 session is scheduled to commence on December 1.
During a protest in front of the CU administrative building, students highlighted the financial challenges many applicants face and urged the university to reduce the admission form fees to Tk 500 or below per unit. They expressed discontent with the current Tk 1,000 fee per unit, deeming it unreasonable.
The students have issued a warning that they will take action to lock the administrative building if their demand is not addressed by the upcoming Sunday deadline.
Abdur Rahman, a student in CU’s Islamic Studies department for the 2021-22 session, emphasized the impact of high fees on economically disadvantaged students, stressing the need for equal opportunities in the admission process. He insisted on an immediate reduction in fees.
Tahsan Habib, a student from the History department (2018-19 session), echoed the sentiment, stating that the administrative building would be locked if the fee reduction demand is not met by the specified deadline.
In response to the students’ demands, CU Registrar Prof Dr Saiful Islam explained that the current fee structure was based on operational expenses. He mentioned that the university would review any formal requests for fee reduction if submitted.
