Business Organizations Mourn Passing of Bangladesh’s Khaleda Zia

-

Two significant business organizations have shared their sincere condolences following the passing of Khaleda Zia, who served as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh three times.

In an official announcement released today, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), expressed that the death of Khaleda marks the conclusion of a significant era in the political history of Bangladesh, leaving a legacy of leadership, resilience, and profound national influence.

Khaleda passed away on December 30 while receiving medical care at Evercare Hospital. Aged 80, she was laid to rest next to her late spouse, former Bangladesh president Ziaur Rahman, the subsequent day at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.

MCCI highlighted that as one of the most prominent political figures in the history of independent Bangladesh, Khaleda Zia played a pivotal role in shaping the democratic path of the nation. The organization emphasized her courage and conviction in leading the country through challenging political and economic transitions, showcasing unwavering dedication to sovereignty, national pride, and the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people.

The trade body commended Khaleda for her remarkable resolve, personal sacrifices, and bravery in the face of adversities throughout her political journey, underscoring her enduring commitment to public service and democratic governance.

In a separate communication today, the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) recognized Khaleda’s contributions to advancing education, particularly for women, and establishing a social safety network in the country. BCI President Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez) acknowledged that under her leadership, the foundation for industrial growth was laid through the promotion of a free-market economy and support for the private sector, bolstering Bangladesh’s economic stability.

“With her passing, the nation mourns the loss of a devoted and patriotic leader,” added Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez).

Following Khaleda’s demise, various prominent trade bodies, such as the FBCCI, DCCI, BGMEA, BKMEA, the Gazipur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers & Dealers Association, also expressed their condolences.
