BTCL Slashes Fees for .bd Domain Registration

-

The Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) has recently announced a reduction in registration and renewal fees for two categories of .bd domain names in a bid to promote local usage. The price reduction pertains to .bd third-level domains and .bd second-level domains, both with names exceeding two characters, with a substantial 36 percent decrease in fees for these categories.

Under the revised fee structure, the registration fee for a .bd Third-Level Domain, such as abc.com.bd, has been lowered from Tk 1,100 to Tk 700, while the renewal fee has been decreased from Tk 1,600 to Tk 1,020. Similarly, for a .bd Second-Level Domain like abc.bd, the registration fee has been reduced from Tk 2,000 to Tk 1,280, and the renewal fee from Tk 2,500 to Tk 1,600.

In comparison to .com domains, obtaining a .bd domain is generally more straightforward and offers greater availability. These domains carry added credibility for individuals and organizations based in Bangladesh, proving beneficial for government entities and established institutions.

Owning a .bd domain not only helps establish a professional and reliable image within the local market but also enhances trust among domestic users. It can lead to improved visibility in Bangladesh-specific search results, and due to stringent local registration policies, .bd domains are considered more secure.

The prices are subject to the application of value-added tax (VAT) at the standard rate, and adherence to guidelines set by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and tariff decisions approved by BTCL authorities is mandatory.

This promotional offer is available for a limited time, with BTCL anticipating that the reduced fees will drive wider adoption of .bd domains among individuals and organizations, thereby bolstering the country’s domestic digital landscape.
