“BSS Managing Director Exits Amid Staff No-Confidence”

-

The Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Mahbub Morshed, exited the news agency’s premises this afternoon following a formal expression of no confidence by journalists and employees. The BSS Journalists-Employees Unity Council leaders disclosed that they had intended to take action before the national election but refrained, fearing it could impact election reporting. Post-election, a meeting was convened where it was collectively decided that Mahbub Morshed would no longer have anyone working under him. The decision was communicated to him, with the group also planning to notify the government.

Upon receiving the news, Mahbub Morshed promptly left the office, with reports indicating he was denied the use of the office vehicle. Despite multiple attempts, The Daily Star was unsuccessful in reaching Mahbub Morshed via phone calls and text messages. In a recent Facebook post, Mahbub Morshed mentioned, “Dear BNP, you are assuming power, and I am pleased. I am currently serving as the BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor following an appointment by the interim government. While you may not wish to retain me in this role, there are established procedures for contract termination and dismissal. Why resort to inciting a disturbance in the office, orchestrating an attack, and locking it rather than following due process?”

Leaders of the Dhaka Reporters Unity have publicly demanded an apology from Mahbub Morshed along with his removal, citing allegations of misconduct.
