Police found the body of a 21-year-old woman hidden in a plastic sack at a residence in the Malibagh area of Dhaka last night. The deceased, identified as Suravi Akter Mahfuza, was the wife of Ashik Molla, who is currently evading authorities.
Sub-Inspector Mohsin Talukdar from Shahjahanpur Police Station reported that the body was discovered at approximately 9:00 pm on the ground floor of a house in the Bakshibagh locality. It was then transferred to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for further examination.
According to the police’s initial assessment, the body was bound inside the plastic sack and exhibited injuries on the chin, neck, chest, and back, with a cut on the right little finger. Authorities suspect that the victim was killed between midnight on Sunday and noon yesterday, potentially stemming from a family conflict.
The victim’s brother, Hridoy Khan, revealed that Suravi, originally from Zajira upazila of Shariatpur, had been married for six years and had a four-year-old son named Mehedi Hasan. He recounted a previous incident two years ago where Ashik had allegedly assaulted his sister severely. Despite attempts to leave, Suravi had eventually returned.
Hridoy further disclosed that on November 1, Ashik rented the flat in Malibagh and sent their son to his grandparents’ residence the same night, indicating a premeditated act according to the family’s belief.
Authorities are currently working to locate and apprehend Ashik as part of the ongoing investigation.
