Saying that voter participation was adversely affected by deceptive tactics employed by a rival political party, BNP has urged its members to remain present at polling stations until the final results are announced. The party has instructed its polling agents across the country to closely monitor the vote counting process.
During a press conference at BNP’s Gulshan election office in Dhaka, spokesperson Mahdi Amin of the BNP Election Steering Committee emphasized the significant disparity between BNP and its competitor. He stated that the violation of the code of conduct since the previous night was driven by the desire to counter this distinction.
Amin highlighted that efforts were made to intimidate voters and dissuade them from voting, resulting in a lower voter turnout than anticipated. He called on supporters of democracy to stay vigilant in protecting the integrity of the election.
Furthermore, Amin emphasized the importance of ensuring transparency and fairness in the counting and announcement of election results to prevent irregularities such as ballot stuffing and the casting of fake votes. He expressed concerns about incidents of violence, manipulation, and the use of illicit funds to influence the electoral process.
BNP also raised concerns about the misuse of social media by a particular political party to spread fear among voters. Despite these challenges, BNP remains confident in its victory and believes that attempts to undermine its success will be unsuccessful.
Regarding the upcoming counting process, BNP Media Cell Convener Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel stated that the party is closely monitoring the situation and has instructed its agents to be vigilant, especially due to the presence of different types of ballots in the same box.
During the briefing, BNP extended gratitude to the Election Commission, armed forces, interim government, law enforcement agencies, and all other entities involved in overseeing the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum.
