A senior member of the BNP was fatally shot in the Lokhmikunda union of Ishwardi upazila in Pabna earlier today. The victim, identified as Md Biru Mollah, 75, served as the president of the BNP’s Lokhmikunda union unit. According to reports from law enforcement and residents, unknown assailants attacked him inside his residence in Kamalpur village. Despite efforts to rush him to the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, Mollah succumbed to his injuries.
The upazila health officer noted that the deceased had suffered severe head and mouth injuries, indicating signs of torture. Regrettably, he passed away before reaching the hospital. When contacted, Habibur Rahman, the BNP-nominated candidate for the Pabna-4 constituency, verified the victim’s political affiliation through his nephew, Md Paban. However, Rahman’s family member refrained from speculating on the motive for the attack without verified details.
Ishwardi Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md Mominuzzaman, stated that initial investigations suggest a longstanding feud and a land dispute as potential reasons for the tragic incident. Local sources disclosed that Biru Mollah had been embroiled in a contentious land dispute with his brother, Johurul. The community is reportedly on edge in the aftermath of the incident.
To ensure public safety and order, law enforcement authorities have heightened vigilance in the area. Police are actively probing the circumstances surrounding the shooting, as per the OC’s statement.
