“BNP Candidate Under Fire for Alleged Religious Offense”

-

Sanjida Islam Tulee, the chosen candidate of the BNP for the Dhaka-14 seat, is facing allegations of “offending religious sentiments.” Anwar Hossain, a 30-year-old cloth merchant and a former Gono Odhikar Parishad member, lodged a complaint against Tulee yesterday with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman’s court, as per the plaintiff’s legal advisor Mahmudul Hasan, as reported by The Daily Star. The court has instructed the Police Bureau of Investigation to investigate the accusations and present a report.

The complaint states that Tulee recently made derogatory remarks concerning the Islamic regulations on marriage. Tulee serves as the coordinator of Maayer Daak, an advocacy group for families affected by enforced disappearances, and is the sibling of a missing BNP official.
