“BNP Candidate Tulee Accused of Religious Offense”

-

Sanjida Islam Tulee, the selected candidate of the BNP for the Dhaka-14 constituency, has been accused of causing offense to religious beliefs. Anower Hossain, a 30-year-old fabric merchant and former member of Gono Odhikar Parishad, lodged a complaint against Tulee under section 295A of the Penal Code at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman, as confirmed by the complainant’s legal representative, Md Mahmudul Hasan.

Tulee serves as the coordinator of Maayer Daak, an organization supporting families affected by enforced disappearances, and is the sibling of a missing BNP official. Following the complainant’s testimony, the magistrate instructed the PBI to conduct an investigation into the matter and present a report to the court.

The case alleges that the defendant recently made derogatory remarks concerning Islamic marriage practices.
