BNP has strategically chosen a blend of experienced leaders and fresh faces for the Dhaka constituencies in the upcoming 13th national election. The party unveiled its potential candidates for 13 out of the 20 constituencies in Dhaka, leaving the nominations for Dhaka 7, 9, 10, 13, 17, 18, and 20 pending.
Sources within BNP indicated that these seats are being reserved for potential alliance partners or are still under review. Notably, Bangladesh Jatiya Party Chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho is anticipated to run for Dhaka-17, the same constituency he contested in 2018.
Simultaneously, Nationalist Democratic Movement Chairman Bobby Hajjaj has reportedly obtained BNP’s endorsement to vie for Dhaka-13. Khandakar Abu Ashfaque, the president of Dhaka district BNP, has been selected for Dhaka-1, having also contested in 2018.
Former state minister Aman Ullah Aman has been chosen for Dhaka-2, succeeding his son who ran for BNP in the previous election. Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a BNP standing committee member, will run for Dhaka-3, a position he held in 2018.
Tanvir Ahmed Rabin, the son of former MP Salahuddin Ahmed and member secretary of Dhaka City South BNP, has been nominated for Dhaka-4. Nabi Ullah Nabi will vie for Dhaka-5, a constituency he competed for in 2018.
Ishraq Hossain, the son of late Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, has been selected for Dhaka-6, a seat contested by a Gano Forum leader in the previous election. Mirza Abbas, another BNP standing committee member, will run for Dhaka-8, as he did in 2018.
MA Quaiyum, the founding president of Dhaka City North BNP, has been nominated for Dhaka-11, while Saiful Alam Nirob, former Dhaka City North BNP president, will contest for Dhaka-12, both having run in 2018.
Sanjida Islam Tuli, the coordinator of Mayer Daak, has received the primary nomination for Dhaka-14. Shafiqul Islam Khan, former acting general secretary of Jubo Dal, will compete for Dhaka-15, a seat contested by a Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer in 2018.
Aminul Haque, the convener of Dhaka City North BNP and a former national footballer, has been chosen for Dhaka-16. Dewan Mohammad Salauddin, a former BNP lawmaker, will run for Dhaka-19, having contested from the same seat in 2018.
Decisions for the remaining constituencies are pending finalization by BNP. Notably, in the 2018 election, various candidates from different parties contested in Dhaka-7, 9, 10, 13, 18, and 20 with BNP or alliance support.
