BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman expressed his admiration for the late Shaheed Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon, describing him as a courageous fighter for democracy. In commemoration of Shaheed Dr Milon Day, Rahman highlighted the significant role played by Dr Milon in rejuvenating democracy through his ultimate sacrifice, which propelled the anti-Ershad autocratic movement towards victory.
Rahman emphasized Dr Milon’s unwavering dedication to ousting autocracy and restoring democratic rights, attributing the triumph of democracy to Dr Milon’s bloodshed. He credited Dr Milon’s sacrifice for the downfall of autocracy and the subsequent reinstatement of democracy in the nation. Rahman also noted the commencement of a new era of democracy under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia.
Offering his deepest respects to Shaheed Dr Milon, Rahman extended prayers for the departed soul’s salvation. Reflecting on the challenging period of the past 16 years under the former Awami government, Rahman lamented the loss of people’s rights and the suppression of democracy. Despite the recent victory achieved through a unified student and public movement on August 5, 2024, Rahman cautioned against ongoing domestic and foreign conspiracies targeting the country.
Rahman urged unity in the face of conspiracies, drawing inspiration from Dr Milon’s selflessness to persevere against adversities.
