BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has accused Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus of breaching the July charter during his televised address to the nation. Following the speech, Salahuddin expressed to The Daily Star that the chief adviser signed the July charter but then violated its terms in his address.
Earlier today, the chief adviser disclosed plans to hold the national election and the referendum on the July charter simultaneously to address the ongoing political crisis. In a 13-minute televised speech, he explained that the referendum would feature a single question regarding the people’s opinion on the July charter implementation order, structured in four parts.
In response, the BNP Standing Committee has called for an emergency meeting at 7:00pm at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan. The meeting, to be overseen by acting chairman Tarique Rahman, was organized following the chief adviser’s speech. It aims to assess the July charter, articulate the party’s stance, and strategize in light of the chief adviser’s statements.
