In Brahmanbaria, two ex-officials of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) were remanded to jail for manipulating educational certificates and misappropriating government funds. Former BGFCL managing director Md Nurul Absar and former general manager (administration) Md Nasiruzzaman Talukder voluntarily presented themselves before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court. The court Inspector Habibullah Sarkar confirmed that their bail requests were denied, and they were ordered to be incarcerated. Meanwhile, the prime suspect ATM Shah Alam, a former BGFCL general manager (administration), is currently evading authorities.
The case was initiated by BGFCL’s current Deputy General Manager (Legal) Md Abul Bashar Miji, who lodged a complaint with the Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station on November 22 last year, accusing the trio. Following investigations conducted separately by BGFCL and Petrobangla, incriminating evidence was discovered against Shah Alam, Nurul Absar, and Nasiruzzaman, leading to legal action against them.
According to the case report, Shah Alam altered his SSC certificate to extend his tenure by falsifying his birth date, thereby pocketing over Tk 74 lakh in salaries and perks during this extended period. Both Nurul Absar and Nasiruzzaman were aware of the fraudulent activities and endorsed the forged documents created by Shah Alam, as mentioned in the case details.
