“Bank Asia PLC Wins FinTech Award for Financial Inclusion”

-

Bank Asia PLC was honored with the “FinTech Innovation of the Year-Financial Inclusion” accolade during the 3rd Bangladesh FinTech Award 2025 for its Micro Merchant program. This initiative has significantly enhanced access to digital payments and bolstered financial inclusion at the grassroots level.

The event, held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka in the capital, was graced by Ahsan H Mansur, the governor of Bangladesh Bank, who presented the awards to the recipients. Sohail RK Hussain, the managing director of Bank Asia PLC, and Mohammad Ziaul Hassan Molla, the deputy managing director, accepted the award on behalf of the bank during the ceremony organized by the Bangladesh Brand Forum.

The Micro Merchant service, launched in July 2020, facilitates swift, cost-effective, and secure digital transactions at the local level through a mobile app-based platform. Presently, there are 28,000 active micro merchants nationwide who have facilitated over 20 million transactions totaling Tk 36,646.72 million thus far.

This initiative complements Bank Asia’s agent banking model, which was introduced in 2014 and continues to be instrumental in promoting financial inclusion throughout Bangladesh.
