Bangladesh’s Cautious Batting Costs Them T20I Match

-

Bangladesh’s cautious approach with the bat cost them another match as they fell to a 14-run defeat against the West Indies in the second T20I in Chattogram. Despite a decent target of 150, Bangladesh struggled to find the right balance between aggression and prudence, leading to a loss with one game remaining in the series.

The chase never picked up momentum after opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s solid 61 runs off 48 balls guided the innings. However, the required urgency was lacking when he departed in the 18th over, leaving Bangladesh at 117-4 with 33 runs needed off 17 balls. The rest of the batting lineup crumbled under pressure, with Skipper Litton Das contributing 23 runs off 17 balls before being dismissed. The slow efforts from Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali further hampered Bangladesh’s progress, with Jaker’s innings being particularly ineffective as he struggled to score boundaries.

Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd bowled well for the West Indies, supported by Jason Holder’s experienced performance that limited Bangladesh’s chase. This defeat marked Bangladesh’s first T20I series loss after four consecutive wins.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh made a strong comeback with the ball after West Indies seemed set for a big total. Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain led the charge, causing a middle-order collapse for the visitors, who lost eight wickets for just 44 runs after a strong partnership between Alick Athanaze and Shai Hope.

Despite a promising start, West Indies were restricted to 149-9, with Mustafizur taking three wickets and Rishad claiming two crucial scalps. The match showcased a remarkable turnaround for Bangladesh, setting up an exciting finale for the T20 series.

In today’s second T20I, West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and opted to bat first. Bangladesh, looking to bounce back after a previous defeat, made a strategic change by bringing in Jaker Ali for Nurul Hasan. Both teams are geared up for an intense battle to keep the series alive.
