“Bangladeshi Expats in Canada Get Voter Registration & Smart NID Cards”

-

The Election Commission (EC) has introduced voter registration and smart National Identity (NID) card facilities for Bangladeshi expatriates residing in Canada. The services were inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin during an event at the Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa. At the ceremony, smart NID cards were distributed to registered expatriate Bangladeshis to mark the commencement of the initiative.

CEC AMM Nasir Uddin emphasized the importance of expatriate Bangladeshis, noting their significant contributions to the country through remittances, investments, and knowledge exchange. He highlighted the necessity for them to participate in shaping the nation’s future by having a voice in the decision-making process.

In addition to the card distribution, a question and answer session was held by the CEC with members of the Bangladeshi community in attendance at the event. Bangladeshi nationals residing in Canada can now access voter registration and NID services at both the High Commission in Ottawa and the Consulate General in Toronto. This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to upholding the democratic rights of approximately 10 million overseas citizens, ensuring their representation aligns with their contributions to the country’s progress.
