Bangladesh women’s cricket team kicked off a week-long fitness camp in preparation for the upcoming Women’s Bangladesh Cricket League (WBCL) commencing on December 15 in Rajshahi. Shorna Akter, an all-rounder, impressed on the first day by showcasing her speed as the fastest runner and displaying remarkable energy during plyometric drills.
Originally, the Tigresses were slated to tour India for two white-ball series, but the tour got postponed by the BCCI. Consequently, with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers approaching in January-February, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) opted to organize the WBCL in T20 format, featuring four teams. This change aims to provide essential match practice to players before the tournament, following last year’s three-day format.
In anticipation of the global qualifier, Shorna and her teammates are relying on the WBCL for crucial preparations. Shorna mentioned, “Our fitness camp began today in preparation for the World Cup. The camp will run for seven days, and we will then join the BCL starting on the 15th.”
It has been reported that Marufa Akter, Nahida Akter, and skipper Nigar Sultana Joty, who were absent during the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), are expected to participate in the WBCL, which concludes on December 25.
