Bangladesh U19s emerged victorious in the initial one-day encounter against Afghanistan U-19, securing a 5-run win through the DLS method due to fading light at the Shahid Chandu Stadium in Bogura today.
Opting to bat first, Afghanistan relied on Uzairullah Niazai’s impressive 140 off 137 deliveries to set a target of 265 for 9. Md Iqbal Hossain Emon shone with the ball, claiming five wickets for 57 runs, while RIzan Hossain took two wickets.
In response, Bangladesh U19s faced early setbacks with the quick dismissals of Zawad Abrar, Azizul Hakim Tamim, and Rifat Beg after a brisk 26 off 30 balls.
Kalam Siddiki Aleen and Rizan orchestrated Bangladesh’s victory, with Kalam notching a brilliant 101 off 119 balls, including 11 boundaries. Their partnership of 139 runs for the fourth wicket was crucial before Kalam departed in the 40th over.
Rizan played a pivotal role, remaining unbeaten on 75 as Bangladesh reached 231 for four, requiring 35 runs off 24 balls before the match was concluded using the DLS method due to deteriorating light conditions.
The upcoming second match is scheduled at the same venue on Friday, with the series set to shift to Rajshahi thereafter.
