Bangladesh Shooter Kamrunnahar Koly Suspended

-

Bangladesh’s prominent female shooter, Kamrunnahar Koly, has received a one-year suspension from the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation (BSSF) due to disciplinary issues.

Koly faced a temporary suspension in early January for allegedly breaching the code of conduct at the national team training camp. The decision was officially confirmed by the Federation’s ad hoc committee following an executive committee meeting on February 2.

According to the suspension letter, Koly violated seven clauses of the training camp code and the incident that occurred on January 25 at the Federation office was highlighted. The letter stated that she exhibited behavior that was deemed “extremely indecent, insulting, threatening, and aggressive” towards the General Secretary, executive committee members, officers, and staff, in the presence of a police officer.

The Federation emphasized that Koly’s actions had a detrimental impact on discipline, security, and the reputation of the organization, resulting in a disruption of order. As a consequence, Koly is prohibited from participating in shooting activities for a period of one year, in accordance with Articles 16.20 and 16.21 of the Federation’s constitution.

Previously, Koly had raised concerns regarding alleged irregularities involving Federation joint secretary GM Haider, including accusations of sexual harassment. The Federation, however, clarified that her suspension was solely based on disciplinary grounds.

Koly achieved a notable feat as the sole shooter from the country to score 629 in the 10m Air Rifle qualification at the 2022 ISSF World Championship in Egypt. Her absence creates a significant void in the national team, with reports indicating that another top shooter, Shaira Afrin, has chosen to distance herself from the sport amidst the ongoing turmoil.
