The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to host a gathering today at the Westin Dhaka to address the ongoing issues surrounding the start of the Dhaka leagues. Despite invitations extended to all 76 Dhaka-based clubs, the participation of 45 clubs remains uncertain due to concerns over the legitimacy of the current board, recent election irregularities, and other grievances.
An official from the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) expressed optimism that the dissenting clubs will join the discussion. The meeting, to be attended by BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, CCDM chairman Adnan Ahmed Dipon, and various board directors and officials, aims to resolve the current impasse.
“We are persistently working towards a resolution and hope for the full participation of all clubs,” stated the official to The Daily Star, noting that formal invitations had been sent to each Dhaka club. Additionally, members from the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) are expected to attend. CWAB president Mohammad Mithun previously expressed confidence in a positive outcome, emphasizing the importance of dialogue between BCB and the clubs in reinstating Dhaka club cricket activities.
Due to the ongoing standoff, the CCDM has postponed the start of the Dhaka First Division Cricket League twice. Initially planned for November 18 after the player transfer window on November 5-6, the league encountered uncertainty when only 12 out of 20 clubs participated in the transfers. Despite a revised start date of November 25, the clubs upheld their stance, leading to further delays in the league commencement.
