Key ports like Chittagong, Mongla, Payra, and the upcoming Matarbari offer immense potential but require coordinated efforts and forward-thinking strategies to realize this potential fully.
The proposed National Maritime Roadmap aims to revolutionize Bangladesh’s maritime sector by focusing on eight strategic pillars. These pillars include establishing a unified maritime authority to streamline operations, enhancing infrastructure to meet 21st-century standards, promoting public-private partnerships and maritime investment zones, strengthening sovereign maritime capability through policy reforms, digitizing the maritime chain for efficiency, ensuring green shipping practices and environmental compliance, developing emergency maritime response and salvage capabilities, and prioritizing maritime education to build a skilled workforce.
By implementing this roadmap, Bangladesh can transform itself from a passive trade corridor into a dynamic maritime nation, leveraging its geographical advantages and human resources. The nation’s rich maritime heritage and trade legacy provide a solid foundation for this transformation, with the potential to attract both local and foreign investments that will drive economic growth and prosperity.
