The Bangladesh Army has accused certain groups of spreading false and misleading information on social media about the recent arrest of Enamul Haque Molla, 48, former general secretary of Chhatra Dal, and six of his associates in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
During a press briefing at the temporary army camp located in Gazipur’s Rice Research Institute this morning, Lt Col Lutfar Rahman, commander of the 14th Field Regiment Artillery, confirmed the arrests and cautioned against efforts to politicize the incident.
Lt Col Rahman emphasized that the army remains impartial and stands for justice and the country’s well-being. He warned that those involved in spreading misinformation and inciting such actions might have ties to terrorist activities. The army is conducting a thorough investigation, and individuals found guilty will face legal consequences based on evidence.
Detailing the operation, Lt Col Rahman mentioned that a joint effort took place in Barmi union of Sreepur upazila early on Thursday, supervised by the Gazipur Army Camp with support from the police and Rab. Enamul was apprehended from inside the water tank of his residence with the assistance of locals and specific intelligence.
Describing Enamul as a wanted criminal and the leader of a gang engaged in illicit sand mining and theft, Lt Col Rahman highlighted that multiple robbery and weapons-related cases are pending against him at Sreepur Police Station, with warrants already issued for some of the offenses.
