“Army Advocates Transparent Election for Troop Return”

The military is advocating for a transparent and credible election within the government’s specified timeframe to enable the troops to return to their bases.

Lt Gen Md Mainur Rahman, the general officer commanding of the Army Training and Doctrine Command, emphasized the importance of conducting the election in accordance with the government’s guidelines to enhance national stability and uphold law and order. Speaking at a press conference at the Officers’ Mess in Dhaka Cantonment, he stated that the army is making necessary preparations as per the government’s outlined strategy.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the army during the past 15 months while operating outside their barracks, Lt Gen Mainur stressed the significance of allowing time for rest and reorganization to maintain readiness. He expressed the army’s desire for a credible election that would facilitate their return to regular duties.

During the briefing, Brig Gen Dewan Mohammad Monzur Hossain, the director of the Military Operations Directorate, confirmed that the army has been instructed to temporarily recall half of its personnel deployed nationwide to ensure overall law and order. He affirmed the army’s commitment to supporting the Election Commission for a fair and peaceful national election.

Addressing concerns about misinformation on social media targeting the army and its leadership, Lt Gen Mainur denounced the spread of false narratives and assured the public of the army’s unity and loyalty to its leadership. He encouraged unity and urged against falling prey to divisive propaganda.

Responding to queries about the army’s role in maintaining law and order, the army officer highlighted the diverse responsibilities undertaken by soldiers, including disaster relief efforts and support for civil authorities. He emphasized the army’s contributions in preventing further escalation of various situations.

Regarding recent arms and ammunition seizures, the GOC acknowledged the significance of such operations as a testament to the army’s vigilance and operational success. He emphasized the need for continued vigilance and collaborative efforts to prevent arms trafficking.

In reference to the Indian Air Force military exercise near the Bangladesh border, Lt Gen Mainur dismissed concerns, stating that such exercises are routine for military preparedness. He emphasized the importance of viewing such activities within the context of national defense exercises.

Brig Gen Monzur provided an overview of the army’s recent operations, highlighting their role in assisting civil authorities, recovering missing weapons and ammunition, and apprehending suspects involved in criminal activities over the past 15 months.
