HBO has released the first trailer for “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” the highly anticipated prequel to “Game of Thrones.” Scheduled to debut on January 18, the six-episode half-hour drama explores events a century before the original series.
Set in a time when the Targaryen dynasty still reigns, the show follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a brave yet inexperienced knight, and his young squire, Egg, in Westeros. Based on George R R Martin’s novellas “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” the series stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan and Dexter Sol Ansell as his squire, Egg, who is revealed to be Prince Aegon Targaryen.
The ensemble cast features Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Steve Wall, and Danny Webb.
George R R Martin and Ira Parker lead the writing and executive production team, with Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw also serving as executive producers. Adina Smith is set to direct the initial three episodes, while Owen Harris will oversee the final three.
After the success of “House of the Dragon,” HBO is revisiting Westeros with a new prequel series that promises a lighter atmosphere, a more intimate narrative, and a focus on character development, offering viewers a glimpse into the realm’s history a century before the tumultuous events of the Iron Throne.
