A Narsingdi court has approved an eight-day remand for seven individuals linked to the gang rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl. The decision was made by the Narsingdi District Judge Court in the absence of legal representation for the accused parties. Sub-Inspector Md Omar Kaiyum from Madhabdi Police Station, the case’s investigating officer, disclosed that although the police requested a 10-day remand, the court granted eight days instead. Among those placed under remand is Nur Mohammad, also known as Nura, who is considered the main suspect in the case.
The incident unfolded when the victim was allegedly abducted on Wednesday night from the Mahishasura area by a group of four to five individuals, with Nur Mohammad leading the group. The victim’s body was discovered the next morning in a mustard field in the Dorikandi area, with an orna wrapped around her neck. Following the abduction, the victim’s mother filed a case on Thursday night, naming nine suspects, seven of whom have been apprehended by the police within a three-day operation.
In connection to the case, former Union Parishad member and Mahishasura Union BNP vice-president Ahmed Ali Dewan has been removed from the party due to his alleged involvement. The First Information Report revealed that the accused initially tried to conceal the incident and later purportedly threatened the victim’s family, urging them to leave the village. The prime suspect, Nura, was captured in Gazipur on Friday night while trying to escape to India through the Dinajpur border. The other arrested individuals include Ebadullah, Hazrat Ali, Gaffar, Ahmed Ali alias Ahmed Dewan, Md Imran Dewan, and Md Ayub, all residents of Mahishasura Union.
