Bangladesh Bank (BB) has announced an extension of the deadline for raw jute exporters to avail of loan restructuring facilities. This extension provides distressed exporters with more time to address their classified loans. The directive, directed to managing directors and chief executive officers of all scheduled banks, includes loans classified as Sub-standard (SS), Doubtful (DF), and Bad/Loss (B/L) as of September 30, 2026.
To benefit from this facility, exporters must submit their applications to their respective banks by September 30, 2026, along with a 2 percent down payment of the total outstanding loan amount. Additionally, the central bank has prolonged the deadline for banks to process and dispose of these applications until December 31, 2026.
This decision offers raw jute exporters an extended timeframe to tackle financial challenges and bring their accounts back in order amidst the unique operational and financial complexities of the sector. The directive was issued under Section 45 of the Bank Company Act, 1991, in coordination with the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance.
Bangladesh Bank emphasized that the regulations outlined in BRPD Circular No. 21 dated October 13, 2021; BRPD Circular No. 27 dated July 7, 2022; and BRPD Circular No. 06 dated February 22, 2023 will remain in effect, with all other terms and conditions unchanged.
