Boeing and Biman Bangladesh Airlines have announced a fresh deal today, where the national carrier has ordered an additional 11 aircraft, including 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX models, to expand and modernize its fleet.
This latest acquisition comprises five 787-10 and six 737-8 airplanes, following the airline’s previous significant purchase of fourteen 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX aircraft earlier this year, as confirmed by Boeing.
Rumee A Hossain, the chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, expressed, “This supplementary agreement is a crucial advancement in Biman’s continuous fleet enhancement and route network expansion. The order aligns with specific requirements in our fleet strategy. The enduring collaboration with Boeing has instilled confidence in us regarding delivery and support arrangements.”
“As the national flag carrier, our commitment is unwavering to enhance Biman’s network and capabilities to meet the connectivity demands of Bangladesh’s populace, expatriates, and business and tourism sectors. This deal forms part of a comprehensive strategic plan to bolster the country’s global connectivity in the foreseeable future,” he added.
Biman currently runs 787, 777, and 737 Next-Generation planes on its international routes, linking Bangladesh with key hubs across the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Europe.
Boeing’s Brad McMullen, the senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, remarked, “Biman’s follow-on order underscores its strategic approach toward fleet modernization and capacity expansion, highlighting the robustness of our enduring partnership. The additional 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX aircraft will offer the efficiency, flexibility, and reliability essential for supporting Bangladesh’s increasing prominence in global aviation.”
The contract signing ceremony was graced by Brad McMullen and Rumee A. Hossain, along with various dignitaries including Bangladesh’s Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M.
