India’s captain, Shreyas Iyer, expressed disappointment over his team’s performance following their crushing defeat by England in a T20 match at Trent Bridge. The T20 world champions were outplayed by England’s fast bowlers, Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue, resulting in a record 125-run loss for India.
England posted a formidable total of 201-7, led by Phil Salt’s impressive 70 runs. In response, India faltered, managing only 76 runs before being bowled out in under 12 overs. Archer and Tongue’s pace proved too much for India as they dismantled the visitors’ top-order early in the innings.
With Tongue claiming career-best figures of 4-28 and Archer taking 3-29, England secured a 2-0 lead in the series. This defeat surpassed India’s previous record T20 loss of 80 runs against New Zealand in 2019 and came on the heels of a series loss to Ireland last month.
Iyer criticized his team’s performance, describing it as “atrocious,” emphasizing the need for better execution and strategy in chasing targets. In contrast, England’s captain, Harry Brook, praised Salt’s innings and credited the bowlers for their disciplined approach in defending the target.
Despite the setback, Iyer remains optimistic about India’s chances in the upcoming matches, highlighting the opportunity to bounce back and learn from their mistakes. England will aim to seal the series victory in the next T20 match at Bristol, while India focuses on regrouping and improving their game.
