Amazon is officially introducing Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex to its corporate employees, expanding beyond its internal Kiro tool, as per an internal communication obtained by Business Insider. Claude Code will be accessible company-wide immediately, with Codex to follow on May 12, according to Jim Haughwout, Vice President of Amazon Software Builder Experience. Both tools will run on Amazon Bedrock and be administered through Amazon Web Services, eliminating the need for staff to handle their own infrastructure or capacity management.
This development broadens the availability of external coding assistants at Amazon. Previously, Claude Code lacked formal approval for production use, requiring engineers to seek special authorization. This limitation had led to complaints from employees who preferred it over the company’s Kiro tool, as reported by Business Insider. The implementation also underscores Amazon’s growing collaborations with prominent AI research organizations like Anthropic and OpenAI.
