“Electric Revolution Takes Center Stage at Dhaka Motor Show 2026”

-

The Dhaka Motor Show 2026 witnessed a significant shift this year, with the usual sounds of combustion engines being replaced by a more subdued buzz powered by batteries, software, and ambition. The event took place at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) from April 23 to 25, attracting over 70 companies from more than 10 countries and featuring nearly 200 booths. Electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid platforms, charging solutions, and ‘smart mobility’ technologies took center stage, overshadowing internal combustion engines throughout the exhibition halls.

Unlike previous editions that sometimes struggled to find a balance between spectacle and substance, this year’s show seemed to embrace the transition wholeheartedly. The exhibition floor showcased a wide range of vehicles, including passenger cars, motorcycles, trucks, auto parts, lubricants, and battery-powered three-wheelers. Electric mobility emerged as a key focal point, reflecting the evolving market landscape in Bangladesh.

From electric motorcycles to compact city EVs and innovative mobility solutions, the diverse lineup highlighted the industry’s shift towards electrification. The co-hosting of the Electric Vehicle Expo alongside the Motor Show reinforced the message that electrification is no longer a niche segment but has become the main attraction. Manufacturers emphasized not only the vehicles themselves but also the supporting ecosystems such as battery technologies, charging infrastructure, and digital interfaces.

Prominent global and regional brands like MG, Wuling, Deepal, and GAC showcased EV models tailored for urban settings with a focus on compact designs. Electric two-wheelers from CFMoto and VMoto, as well as light commercial EVs, garnered significant attention. While traditional automakers like Toyota, Mitsubishi Motors, and Mercedes-Benz Bangladesh showcased their hybrid and electric vehicle lineups, drawing crowds with popular models.

The Dhaka Motor Show has historically mirrored the state of the country’s automotive industry, and this year’s event underscored Bangladesh’s alignment with global mobility trends, despite ongoing infrastructure challenges. While obstacles such as high initial costs, limited charging infrastructure, and policy inconsistencies persist, the direction towards electrification and sustainable mobility is evident. The transition signifies a shift from the era of traditional gearheads to that of early adopters embracing futuristic technologies.

This year’s Dhaka Motor Show symbolizes the evolving automotive landscape in Bangladesh, signaling a transformative period propelled by innovation and sustainability.
