“Pope Leo Condemns Exploitation and Deception on Africa Tour”

-

During an event in Angola, Pope Leo expressed concern about the exploitation of people by authoritarian regimes and the deception carried out by the wealthy. This reflects his increasingly outspoken approach during his Africa tour, which has drawn attention for its bold statements.

As the first U.S. pope, Pope Leo, in a Mass near the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo, emphasized that violence and oppression contradict the teachings of Christianity. He stated that any form of oppression, violence, exploitation, and dishonesty goes against the essence of Christ’s resurrection.

His visit to Angola is part of a comprehensive 10-day Africa tour, covering four countries and involving stops in 11 cities and towns, totaling nearly 18,000 km through 18 flights. Pope Leo, who assumed leadership of the 1.4-billion-member Catholic Church in May, has taken a more assertive stance in denouncing war and inequality during this tour.

Without directly naming specific leaders, the pontiff has criticized global figures for their actions. He condemned the exploitation of Africa’s natural resources by dictators and tyrants, and also highlighted the detrimental impact of a few oppressive rulers on the world.

Addressing journalists, Pope Leo clarified that his speeches during the tour were drafted weeks prior and were not specifically targeting President Trump.
