Cuban security forces reportedly shot dead four Cuban exiles and injured six others who entered Cuban waters on a speedboat registered in Florida. The incident occurred during a time of escalated tensions between Cuba and the United States.
According to Cuba’s Interior Ministry, the individuals were anti-government Cubans, some of whom were previously wanted for planning attacks. They arrived from the US equipped with camouflage clothing, assault rifles, handguns, homemade explosives, ballistic vests, and telescopic sights.
The Cuban government disclosed that an additional Cuban suspect connected to the operation was apprehended within Cuban territory. The Interior Ministry stated that preliminary interrogations revealed the group’s intention to conduct a terrorist infiltration.
In response to the incident, the wounded individuals were evacuated for medical treatment, including the injured Cuban patrol commander. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that the operation was not conducted by US authorities, and no US government personnel participated in the event.
Cuban officials notified the US about the situation, although the US embassy in Havana planned to independently investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, as mentioned by Rubio.
