Google has now made ‘Notebooks’ accessible to users on the free tier within the Gemini app. This expansion comes after the initial release earlier this month exclusively for paid subscribers, as confirmed by an announcement from Google. The ‘Notebooks’ feature can be found on gemini.google.com under a new section called ‘Notebooks’ in the side panel.
These Notebooks serve as dedicated project spaces where users can efficiently organize related chats and uploaded files, including documents and PDFs. Google highlights that any conversation within the Gemini app can easily be added to a notebook through the overflow menu.
Furthermore, Notebooks seamlessly sync with Google’s NotebookLM application, ensuring that any sources added in one tool will automatically appear in the other. This synchronization enables users to access NotebookLM-specific features like Video Overviews and Infographics, irrespective of whether the notebook was initially created in Gemini.
Currently, free users have the capacity to add up to 50 sources per notebook. Subscribers to Google AI Plus can include 100 sources, while Pro and Ultra tiers offer 300 and 600 sources, respectively. Users have the flexibility to provide custom instructions regarding tone and response format. Additionally, there is an option to disable the ‘notebook memory’ setting if preferred.
Google describes notebooks as “personal knowledge bases shared across Google products” and hints at more features in the pipeline. Presently, availability is restricted to the web version, with anticipated support for mobile and Mac apps in the “coming weeks.”
