The Media Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) is set to host a two-day journalism conference in Dhaka next month, bringing together journalists, editors, researchers, civil society members, teachers, students, and international experts to address the challenges facing the profession and strategize for its future.
Dubbed as the Bangladesh Journalism Conference 2026, the event is scheduled for May 8 and 9 at Hotel Radisson, as announced by MRDI’s Executive Director, Hasibur Rahman, during a press briefing at The Daily Star Centre.
Hasibur Rahman emphasized the importance of providing a platform for local journalists to engage with and gain insights from global experts. The conference agenda comprises 12 sessions with over 20 discussants, expecting participation from more than 500 individuals. Notably, journalists and experts from over 10 countries, including the US, the UK, India, Pakistan, and Canada, are anticipated to attend.
MRDI’s core objective of promoting objective, investigative, and public-interest journalism will be upheld during the conference, which will feature plenary and thematic sessions, parallel tracks, and masterclasses to facilitate knowledge exchange among journalists.
Registration for the event will commence on a dedicated microsite at 12:01 am tomorrow on a first-come, first-served basis, with final selection at the discretion of the organizers. Eligible participants include journalists from local, national, and international media outlets, irrespective of their location, along with teachers, researchers, fact-checkers, development partners, civil society members, and MRDI alumni. Students interested in attending must complete MRDI’s online basic journalism course, and selection will be based on performance within the limited seats available.
