The 37-year-old played a crucial role as Bengaluru successfully chased down 156 runs to defeat Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the final held in Ahmedabad.
Known for his prowess in chasing targets, Kohli showcased his talent by amassing a total of 675 runs throughout the T20 tournament, including a crucial six that sealed the victory. Head coach Andy Flower acknowledged Kohli’s influence, describing him as the heartbeat of the team in a tribute video released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday.
Kohli’s stellar performance included a dynamic 62-run opening partnership with Venkatesh Iyer and his composure in guiding the team to victory. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar lauded Kohli’s temperament and winning mindset, highlighting his ability to excel in pressure situations.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal paid tribute to Kohli’s greatness by stating, “Virat doesn’t need any trophies. He is a trophy himself.” Bengaluru, led by Kohli, have been in top form in the T20 tournament since clinching their first IPL title last year.
Despite their success, the team opted not to hold a public celebration with the trophy due to past incidents. Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar expressed gratitude towards the team’s fans, referring to them as family members and dedicating the victory to them.
