The Bangladesh Army has made significant changes to key leadership positions, including the chief of general staff (CGS), principal staff officer (PSO), and director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
As per a source within the defense ministry, Lt Gen Mainur Rahman, who previously served as the general officer commanding (GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC), has been appointed as the new CGS of the Army, succeeding the retired Lt Gen Mizanur Rahman Shamim.
Maj Gen Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, who previously held the position of GOC of the 24 Infantry Division in Chattogram, has been promoted to lieutenant general and assigned as the PSO at the Armed Forces Division. Meanwhile, the former PSO, Lt Gen SM Kamrul Hasan, will be moving to the foreign ministry for his upcoming role as an ambassador.
Brig Gen Mohammad Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury has been designated as the new DG of DGFI. He has been elevated to the rank of major general and relocated from the Army Headquarters to the DGFI headquarters.
The current DGFI Director General, Maj Gen Mohammad Jahangir Alam, will also be transitioning to the foreign ministry.
Furthermore, Brig Gen Md Hafizur Rahman, who is presently serving as the defense adviser at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, has been promoted to major general and appointed as the GOC of the 55 Infantry Division in Jashore.
Maj Gen JM Emdadul Islam, the current leader of the 55 Infantry Division, will be taking on the role of commandant of the East Bengal Regimental Centre. In his place, Maj Gen Ferdous Hasan has been named as the new GOC of the 24 Infantry Division.
