Pakistan’s batsman Salman Ali Agha has been reprimanded and received a demerit point for mistreating cricket equipment during the second ODI against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The incident occurred in the 39th over of Pakistan’s innings when Agha was given out run out by the third umpire Kumar Dharmasena off Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s delivery.
The tense moment unfolded as Mohammad Rizwan played a shot towards Miraz, who stopped the ball with his boot while Agha was in his way. Agha attempted to pick up the ball to return it, but Miraz quickly grabbed it and dislodged the bails, catching Agha short of his crease.
Following the decision, Agha expressed discontent and had a heated exchange with wicketkeeper Litton Das while walking back to the dressing room after scoring 64 off 62 balls. He also threw away his gloves before leaving the field, leading match referee Neeyamur Rashid to charge him for misusing cricket equipment.
Neeyamur explained that Agha, with no prior history of such behavior, was reprimanded and given a demerit point for the incident. The report has been submitted to the ICC, with no charges related to the verbal altercation as it was deemed a misunderstanding.
The offense was classified as a level 1 breach of Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, concerning the abuse of cricket equipment during an International Match. Despite the incident, Pakistan emerged victorious by 128 runs through the DLS method, setting up the series-deciding third ODI at the same venue on Sunday.
