Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen shared her belief on Saturday that President Donald Trump remains interested in acquiring Greenland, despite toning down his recent suggestions of forcibly taking control of it. Speaking at a security conference in Munich, Frederiksen acknowledged that she thinks Trump’s desire to possess the Arctic island persists. The speculation surrounding Trump’s ambitions for Greenland has heightened tensions between the United States and Europe. In the past month, Trump retracted his earlier statements about seizing the island, which is an autonomous region under Denmark, following discussions and reaching what he termed as a “framework” agreement with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte.
