A 22-year-old mason met a tragic end last night in Sonargaon of Narayanganj, allegedly due to a financial dispute, according to the police. The deceased, Md Nayeem Hossain, was discovered near a canal, approximately 200 yards from his residence in Parameshwardi village under Noagaon Union, as per his elder brother, Nasimul Hossain.
Today, Nasimul lodged a murder complaint with Sonargaon Police Station. Police Officer-in-Charge Md Mahibbullah confirmed the murder, noting that the body displayed multiple injuries. One suspect has been apprehended in connection with the crime.
OC Mahibbullah mentioned that despite being a mason, Nayeem was involved in lending money on interest, suggesting that the murder might have stemmed from disputes related to these transactions. The police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects.
Recalling the events, Nasimul recounted that he and his brother were at nearby tea stalls last evening when Nayeem received a phone call. Nayeem, after conversing on the phone and mentioning his financial constraints, abruptly disappeared, leaving his brother perplexed.
Upon Nasimul’s return home around 8:30 pm, he failed to contact Nayeem. Shortly after, locals discovered Nayeem’s lifeless body with severe injuries.
Nasimul described the grim scene, highlighting the severity of Nayeem’s injuries and the unsuccessful attempt to save him at Sonargaon Upazaila Health Complex, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Nayeem, the youngest among eleven siblings, faced early parental loss and was raised by his siblings. He worked alongside his elder brother Nasimul, who oversees masonry projects as a contractor.
