“Thakurgaon Eco Pathshala Celebrates Spring Festival”

-

In Thakurgaon, winter is fading away, and the arrival of spring was celebrated with enthusiasm. Thakurgaon Eco Pathshala and College held a Spring Festival to commemorate the onset of Boshonto, a season traditionally honored in Bengal with music, poetry, and performances. Students and teachers came together on campus to officially embrace the changing season.

The event kicked off with a group performance of Rabindranath Tagore’s “Aha Aji E Boshonte Eto Phool Phote,” capturing the essence of abundance linked with spring. This choice of music rooted the gathering in a literary legacy that continues to influence seasonal customs in Bangladesh.

Protibha Roy Dola then sang “Fagun Haway Haway Korechi Je Daan” from Tagore’s “Prakriti Porbo,” a series of nature-inspired songs. Shrabonti Roy followed with “Batase Bohiche Prem, Noyone Lagilo Nesha, Kara Je Dakilo Pichhe, Boshonto Eshe Gechhe,” sustaining the festive mood.

Mehedi Hasan performed “Polash Phutechhe, Shimul Phutechhe,” alluding to the vibrant crimson blooms of palash and shimul that symbolize spring in the rural areas.

The celebration continued with captivating dance routines by students Sidratun Muntaha Khan and Sabirin Khan Silmi, choreographed to seasonal tunes, expressing themes of rejuvenation through movement. Rakib Hasan Chayon later recited a poem, adding a touch of literature to the event.

The festival concluded with the performance of “Rangiye Diye Jao Jao Go Ebar Jabar Age,” as participants moved together symbolizing the colors of the season.

Principal Selima Akhter highlighted to The Daily Star that the festival was part of a broader cultural endeavor at the institution. She emphasized that beyond spring, the institution aims to preserve the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the Bengali people by organizing various season-themed events throughout the year, aiming to inspire the younger generation to embrace and uphold these values.
