“Collaborative Effort Rescues 15 Trafficking Victims in Teknaf”

-

Fifteen individuals, comprising four children, six women, and five men, were successfully rescued in a collaborative effort by the Bangladesh Coast Guard and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the Baharchhara region of Teknaf. Lieutenant Commander Siyam-ul-Haque, the Bangladesh Coast Guard’s media spokesperson, disclosed that based on actionable intelligence, a joint team from the Coast Guard’s Baharchhara outpost and Rab conducted a targeted operation at a specific residence in the Kacchapia area of the upazila at approximately 4:00 pm the previous day.

The victims were discovered being held against their will in a warehouse situated within the property of an individual named Abdul Ali, who had intentions of trafficking them to Malaysia via sea routes. Despite the perpetrators managing to escape upon detecting the law enforcement presence, the operation resulted in the successful rescue of the 15 individuals, with no arrests made during the operation.

Initial inquiries uncovered that well-organized trafficking syndicates had enticed individuals from Cox’s Bazar, including both Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, as well as other regions of the country, with false promises of improved living conditions overseas, lucrative employment opportunities, and affordable migration to Malaysia, all under the guise of sea transportation.

Following the rescue operation, the individuals were transferred to the Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal proceedings, as confirmed by the Coast Guard representative.
