The community of Sirajganj is in a favorable position with the appointment of two of their representatives, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku (Sirajganj-2) and his nephew Dr MA Muhit (Sirajganj-6), as key figures in the newly established cabinet. Iqbal Hasan, an experienced politician, now holds the position of Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, while Dr. Muhit, a newcomer to politics, has been designated as State Minister overseeing crucial sectors such as Health and Family Welfare, Science and Technology, and Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.
In the past, Iqbal Hasan had served as State Minister for Power and Energy during the tenure of the former BNP government from 2001 to 2006. The familial bond between the two is evident, with Dr. Muhit being the son of Tasmina Mahmud, the elder sister of Iqbal Hasan. This “uncle-nephew” pair is expected by local residents and political figures to collaboratively spearhead development initiatives in Sirajganj and the surrounding regions.
Rashidul Hasan Ranjan, the Joint Secretary of the Sirajganj district BNP unit, remarked, “Iqbal Hasan, a seasoned leader from the previous BNP administration, now in a full cabinet role, is poised to enhance his effectiveness.” He further expressed gratitude for having both a Minister and a State Minister from the same family, highlighting the belief that their strong familial ties will facilitate synchronized leadership in advancing development agendas.
Shopon Das, a resident of Sirajganj town, reflected on the positive outlook saying, “Local progress is often impeded by internal conflicts, but the shared family background of these leaders instills hope that regional advancement will not be disrupted.”
