Renowned Bangladeshi artist Tapan Chowdhury has crafted an original song for Dr. Priyanka Gope, marking their debut musical project together. The new composition, titled “Kotodin Hoyni Dekha,” features lyrics by Tapan Chowdhury and acclaimed poet Kabir Bakul. Chowdhury has created the melody, while the musical arrangement is being handled by Ujjal Sinha, with the recording set to commence soon.
Tapan Chowdhury, known for his iconic contributions to Bangladesh’s music scene in the 1990s, gained fame during the era of BTV, Bangladesh Betar, and cassettes. His solo album “Onushochona” remains a cherished classic from that time, while his collaborative album “Nishwase Tumi Bishwase Tumi” with Indian vocalist Mitali Mukherjee also garnered widespread acclaim.
Dr. Priyanka Gope expressed her personal connection to the collaboration, citing Chowdhury’s influence on her musical upbringing. She described the opportunity to sing a song composed by him as a great honor and hopes to meet his expectations.
Recently, Gope performed “Megher Vela” on BTV’s cultural show “Fagun Molat,” a piece penned by Adhara Jahan and composed by Suman Kalyan. Her previous works include “Ekhono Koeliya” and “Aji Nemeche Andhar,” arranged by Pallab Sanyal and Sonali Roy, all crafted with the audience’s tastes in mind.
Dr. Priyanka Gope has led the Department of Music at the University of Dhaka since July 1, 2014. She clinched the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2015 for her exceptional contribution to the film “Anil Bagchir Ekdin.”
