At least one individual lost their life and 36 others sustained injuries in incidents of violence following the recent elections across the nation from Thursday night to yesterday evening. The clashes involved intra-party disputes, confrontations between rival factions, and acts of vandalism.
The fatal incident occurred in Char Abdullah village in Sadar upazila of Munshiganj, where a young man was fatally assaulted during a clash between rival groups reportedly associated with the BNP party. Md Jasim Nayeb, a 30-year-old supporter of an independent candidate and expelled BNP district member secretary Md Mohiuddin, suffered critical injuries in the violence and later succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The clash between the rival groups, both linked to the BNP, erupted over election-related disputes, leading to Jasim being severely injured with a sharp weapon.
Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Md Menhazul Alam assured that legal actions would be taken against the responsible parties involved in the clash. Jasim’s father, Mafiq Nayeb, and brother, Mashiur Rahman, were also harmed during the incident.
In Jhenaidah, 25 individuals were wounded in five separate incidents, including clashes, property damage, and attacks on election camps and a press club office. In one incident, two factions of BNP supporters clashed in Shrirampur village under Shailkupa upazila, resulting in injuries to 12 individuals. Additionally, clashes and attacks occurred in other locations in Jhenaidah, leading to injuries and property damage.
Similar incidents were reported in Patuakhali, where violence erupted between BNP and Jamaat activists, resulting in injuries. Several altercations occurred, including an attack on Jamaat activists by BNP members and retaliatory actions, leading to injuries and property damage.
Furthermore, incidents of vandalism were reported in Dumki upazila, where miscreants damaged property belonging to Hindu families after the election results were announced. Security measures have been heightened in the affected areas, and legal actions are being pursued to address the situation.
In various other districts, clashes, attacks, and acts of violence have been reported post-election, prompting law enforcement agencies to take necessary actions to maintain order and security in the regions affected by the incidents.
