“BNP Seeks India’s Help to Extradite Former PM Hasina”

A member of the BNP Standing Committee, Salahuddin Ahmed, stated today that his party plans to formally request India to extradite former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh for trial.

Addressing reporters outside the BNP office in Gulshan, Dhaka, at 3:00 pm, Salahuddin emphasized the intention to seek Hasina’s extradition in compliance with legal procedures. He highlighted that the extradition request would be managed through diplomatic channels between the foreign ministries of Bangladesh and India.

Reflecting on recent political developments, the BNP leader noted the country’s recent inclusive election, attributing the outcome to a widespread popular movement.

Salahuddin, who has claimed victory in the Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, emphasized the ongoing efforts to fortify democratic institutions in the nation.

He outlined the party’s 31-point agenda as the guiding principles for democratic reforms, underscoring the significance of the July National Charter as a symbol of political consensus.

Anticipating a proactive legislative body, Salahuddin expressed optimism about the upcoming parliament’s effectiveness in enacting laws and constitutional amendments aligned with public expectations and national aspirations.

He called upon the Election Commission to swiftly complete the formalities, expecting the official announcement of election results through a gazette notification later in the day.

Looking ahead, Salahuddin highlighted the impending swearing-in of newly elected parliamentarians, emphasizing adherence to constitutional procedures in the transition of power.
