The 13th parliamentary election transpired peacefully, with preliminary results suggesting resounding victories for several prominent candidates who were prominent figures in public discussions online and during the campaign period. Tarique Rahman, the BNP Chairman, has emerged as the unofficial winner in both Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies, garnering substantial leads over his competitors.
In Dhaka-17, Tarique, running under the party’s “sheaf of paddy” symbol, secured 72,699 votes, surpassing his closest opponent, Dr. Khaleduzzaman of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, who received 68,300 votes. Similarly, in Bogura-6, Tarique obtained 216,284 votes, while his nearest rival, Abidur Rahman Sohel of Jamaat, received 97,626 votes.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the BNP Secretary General, unofficially clinched victory in Thakurgaon-1 with 238,836 votes, winning by a margin of 97,819 votes after the inclusion of final results, including postal ballots.
Mirza Abbas, a BNP Standing Committee member, secured victory in Dhaka-8 with 59,366 votes, surpassing Nasiruddin Patwary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), who received 54,127 votes.
In Netrokona-4, Lutfozzaman Babar, the BNP candidate, garnered 121,825 votes compared to 31,453 votes received by Jamaat’s Md Al Helal from 115 of 150 centers.
Salahuddin Ahmed, a BNP candidate, emerged victorious in Cox’s Bazar-1 with 222,019 votes, defeating Jamaat candidate Abdullah Al Faruk, who received 129,728 votes.
In Kishoreganj-4, BNP candidate and freedom fighter Fazlur Rahman won over Jamaat’s Rokon Reza Sheikh by a significant margin of nearly 72,000 votes, securing 129,954 votes against 57,326.
Apart from BNP candidates, other notable figures also celebrated victories. Shafiqur Rahman, the Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, won Dhaka-15 by securing 85,131 votes, surpassing BNP candidate Safiqul Islam Khan by a margin of 21,614 votes.
In Brahmanbaria-2, independent candidate Rumeen Farhana clinched victory with 117,495 votes, defeating Jamiat-e-Ulama-backed candidate Junaid Al Habib by a margin of 37,568 votes.
Nahid Islam, the NCP Convener, emerged as the winner in Dhaka-11 with 93,872 votes, surpassing BNP candidate MA Kaiyum by a margin of 2,039 votes.
The Election Commission reported a voter turnout of 59.44 percent in the 13th parliamentary election and referendum. Thousands of voters, including individuals with physical challenges, patiently queued at polling stations nationwide, demonstrating their determination to elect representatives for 299 of the 300 parliamentary seats.
