“Bangladesh Sees Strong 59.44% Voter Turnout in Dual Election”

-

Voter participation in the 13th parliamentary election and referendum reached 59.44 percent, as reported by the Election Commission of Bangladesh today. The election and referendum took place yesterday. Following the announcement of results this morning, Ruhul Amin Mollik, the EC Director of Public Relations, informed the press at around 11:30 am about the voting rate of 59.44 percent.

Numerous individuals, including men and women, some with mobility aids like crutches or wheelchairs, patiently lined up for hours at polling stations nationwide. They exhibited courage and determination while exercising their right to select representatives for 299 out of the 300 parliamentary seats.

Female voters turned out in significant numbers, often arriving in groups, demonstrating a widespread involvement across various age groups and genders. In addition to electing a new parliament crucial for the country’s democratic progression following years of political unrest, voters also participated in a referendum concerning constitutional reforms. This marked the first instance in the nation’s history where two votes were held concurrently.
