Rajshahi Stars FC wrapped up a flawless season by clinching the Women’s Football League (WFL) championship with a dominant 3-0 win against Bangladesh Army SC in the final showdown at Birshrestha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium on Friday. Despite a scoreless first half, Alpi Akter, Shaheda Akter Ripa, and Ritu Porna Chakma all scored to secure the title in Rajshahi’s inaugural season.
Requiring just a draw to confirm their victory, Rajshahi went on to claim all 10 wins in the 11-team league, finishing with a perfect record. Alpi, with two goals in the final match, concluded the season with 29 goals, equalling Aungmraching Marma’s 2012–13 season record—the second-highest in league history. The top spot still belongs to former national captain Sabina Khatun, who scored 35 goals in the 2019–20 season.
Despite dominating the early stages of the game, Army fell short in their quest for a win to force a title-deciding playoff. Rajshahi had bolstered their team by bringing in Nepalese players Bimala BK and Dipa Shahi, but Army applied pressure in the first half. The champions, however, regrouped during halftime and delivered a composed and clinical performance in the second half, scoring three goals to secure the championship in impressive fashion.
