“Election Commissioner Stresses Transparency in Polling Process”

-

The Chief Election Commissioner, AMM Nasir Uddin, emphasized the Election Commission’s commitment to transparency in conducting elections. During the unofficial results announcement ceremony of the 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum in Dhaka, Nasir stated that the Commission has been transparent and open to scrutiny by the public and media.

Addressing concerns about the speed of result announcements, Nasir explained that the Commission operates based on the data received from the 42,500 polling centers. He clarified that the pace of result announcements is determined by the availability of data and emphasized that the process is solely focused on accurate calculations and not on any manipulation or hidden agenda.

Nasir highlighted the massive scale of the election process, involving 180 million people and 127 million voters, along with the printing and distribution of 200 million ballots for the election and referendum. He expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the media, political leaders, law enforcement agencies, and voters, noting that approximately 1.7 million individuals contributed to the successful execution of the election.

While acknowledging that no election is flawless, Nasir asserted that the election was conducted credibly and fairly, with the support and cooperation of various stakeholders. He emphasized that only results signed by returning officers and published in the gazette would be considered official, cautioning against relying on unofficial sources for election outcomes.
