Jamaat-e-Islami’s contender Mohammad Shishir Manir, a practicing lawyer at the Supreme Court, extended his congratulations to BNP candidate Nasir Chowdhury, who is currently holding a significant lead in the Sunamganj-2 constituency (Dirai and Shalla) during the 13th national election. Shishir Monir took to his verified Facebook page at approximately 8:30 pm to express his felicitations, stating, “Congrats to Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, the victorious candidate in my area. My sincere best wishes to you.”
Rudra Mizan, the chief election representative for Nasir Chowdhury, informed Prothom Alo that they had received results from 88 out of 111 polling stations by 8:00 pm. Among these 88 stations, Nasir Chowdhury secured 74,289 votes under the ‘sheaf of paddy’ symbol, while his closest competitor, Shishir Monir, garnered 42,467 votes. In these 88 polling stations, Nasir Chowdhury is leading by a margin of 31,820 votes.
Shishir Monir previously served as the central secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir, whereas Nasir Chowdhury is a member of the BNP’s central executive committee and a former Member of Parliament.
